Hindman Auctions, one of the nation's leading and fastest growing fine art auction houses, is looking to add a full-time Business Development professional in St. Louis, Missouri. The Business Development Director generates consignments for auctions by developing new relationships and expanding existing relationships with private clients, trust and estate attorneys, wealth management professionals and museum professionals. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop a strategic plan to achieve budgeted revenue and profitability targets; grow Hindman's brand in the St. Louis market and surrounding areas.
  • Grow the reputation of Hindman with trust and estate attorneys, wealth management professionals, private clients and museum professionals through proactive outreach, including meetings, networking, events, etc.
  • Partner with consignment department heads (i.e. jewelry, furniture, fine art, etc.) to facilitate business development efforts; leverage specialists to showcase Hindman's knowledge and skill.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with prospective clients, customers and other referral sources.
  • Develop productive business relationships with appraisal firms, art advisory groups and key museums to generate referrals.
  • Collaborate with marketing to attract consignors and buyers, ensuring marketing dollars align with highest ROI opportunities for the business.
  • Support business development efforts for national accounts and major consignments outside the region, as needed.
  • Manage and mentor client services associate, providing feedback and fostering career growth and development.
  • Identify and generate potential new consignments
  • Contribute to team and company success and improve operating performance and bottom line


Successful candidate will possess: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; arts management, art history or general business
  • 7-10 years of experience in an arts-related field; experience within the auction industry highly desirable
  • Successful track record of creating sales growth at or above target margins
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic professional
  • Results driven and performance focused mentality
  • Strong understanding of the fine art business, auctions and business development
