Hindman Auctions, one of the nation's leading fine art auction houses, is looking to add a full-time Senior Specialist, Antiquities in our Chicago office. In this role, the Senior Specialist will grow Hindman's business in the Antiquities department by building long-term client relationships with private collectors, institutions and industry contracts, as well as meeting and exceeding annual sales goals. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for all work associated with the evaluation of objects from the ancient world, including but not limited tGreek, Roman, Egyptian and Near Eastern antiquities including cataloging consigned property, researching authenticity, provenance and reviewing client inquiries to determine sale potential 
  • Research and catalogue property for auction with the goal of assigning auction estimates, also valuing property for IRS (estate tax, gift tax, donation, etc.) and insurance appraisals 
  • Work with other Specialists to promote the auction by helping clients at auction previews, speaking to clients about the property, developing, tracking and communicating client interest and executing bids at auction 
  • Act as a point of contact for client inquiries regarding appraisal services, consignments and auctions 
  • Proactively develop new opportunities to grow and maintain the volume of transactions with top dealers, institutions and private collectors 
  • Travel to regional offices to support Business Development efforts, and to evaluate and consign property for upcoming sales 
  • Collaborate with other departments to develop strategies to reach new potential consignors and ensure seamless client service 

Successful Candidate will possess: 

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the Antiquities industry; auction house experience preferred 
  • Direct hands-on experience with current market pricing of Antiquities 
  • Strong sense of professionalism; excellent communication and client service skills 
  • Proven ability to initiate new business, self-motivate and work independently 
  • Ability to travel at times
