Hindman Auctions, one of the nation's leading fine art auction houses, is looking to add a full-time Property Associate in our Chicago office. The primary focus of the Property Associate is to ensure all inventory is accounted for and that storage areas meet Hindman's high standards. The position also involves tagging lots appropriately prior to sale, overseeing preview set-ups & breakdowns, traveling to pick up items, and interacting with clients.


  • Pull property as requested by employees and customers
  • Assist with incoming property shipments
  • Provide quality checks of all property received
  • Log and tag property as it arrives
  • Pack and unpack, handle, transport and secure property in storage and vehicles for transport
  • Troubleshoot, track and trace missing property, and communicate proactively with relevant departments
  • Assist with photo shoots, exhibition set up and installation

Preferred Education and Skills:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent; college degree a plus
  • 3-5 years of experience managing inventory of all types of property, from small decorative objects to large pieces of furniture
  • Knowledge of proper handling, packing, loading and securing art, antiquities, sculpture, and household furnishings into vehicles for safe transport
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office: Outlook, MS Word, Excel)
  • Familiarity with inventory databases and paperwork bills of lading, condition reports, inventory lists, driver logs, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and time management capabilities
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to pack/unpack, lift, box and crate/uncrate property weighing up to 70 pounds
  • Use of dock equipment and power tools (drills, pallet jacks, dollies, hand trucks, crowbars, material- handling equipment)
  • Ability to work in a team culture, communicating with colleagues to ensure safety of the team and property being moved
  • Willingness to work long hours and weekends on as-needed basis
  • Willingness to work in non-air-conditioned environments outside and in the field
